Emergency Department Expansion at Beth Israel Deaconess Milton Hospital
McDonald Electrical Corporation is proud to have played a key role in the successful expansion of the Emergency Department at Beth Israel Milton Hospital, located at 199 Reedsdale Road in Milton, Massachusetts. This 8,000-square-foot healthcare project delivered critical new patient care space through an innovative modular construction approach, helping the hospital expand emergency services efficiently while minimizing disruption to ongoing operations.
Project Scope
- Emergency Department Expansion: McDonald Electrical provided comprehensive electrical installations for an 8,000-square-foot modular expansion of the hospital’s Emergency Department, increasing capacity and enhancing patient care capabilities.
- Treatment Rooms & Clinical Spaces: Electrical systems were installed to support 18 new treatment rooms and 2 nurse stations, ensuring reliable power, lighting, and infrastructure for critical healthcare operations.
- Ambulance Entrance Infrastructure: The project included electrical installations supporting a new ambulance entry, improving patient access and emergency response efficiency.
- Modular Facility Integration: Working closely with the project team, McDonald Electrical coordinated the installation and connection of all electrical systems for the prefabricated modular units manufactured off-site and assembled on campus.
Special Challanges
- Complex Modular Construction Process: The building was manufactured and fully fitted out in Pennsylvania before being transported to Milton in 20 separate modules. This unique delivery method required extensive planning and coordination to ensure all electrical systems aligned seamlessly during installation.
- Pre-Installed Infrastructure Requirements: Electrical infrastructure was installed within the basement crawl space prior to the arrival of the modular units. Precise layout and coordination were essential to ensure successful integration once the building sections were set in place.
- Hundreds of Mate-Line Connections: The project required the completion of hundreds of mate-line electrical connections between modules. Our team executed these connections with accuracy and efficiency to create a fully integrated and reliable electrical system throughout the facility.
- Healthcare Environment Coordination: Working within an active hospital campus demanded careful scheduling, communication, and adherence to healthcare facility requirements to minimize disruption while maintaining project momentum.
Through careful planning, technical expertise, and close collaboration with Axis Construction Corporation, NEMD, AKF, and Beth Israel Lahey Health, McDonald Electrical successfully delivered the electrical infrastructure for this innovative healthcare expansion, helping provide enhanced emergency care services to the Milton community.
