Taunton Municipal Lighting Plant 115KV Switchyard
Project
McDonald Electrical Corporation served as the electrical contractor for the upgrade of Taunton Municipal Lighting Plant’s (TMLP) 115kV switchyard at the Cleary-Flood Generating Station in Taunton, MA.
The project involved the electrical installation of a new three-bay, breaker-and-a-half switchyard with five line positions. Scope included the integration of high-voltage breakers, disconnect switches, and control equipment, along with the installation of new steel and wood transmission structures to tie into the existing 115kV system.
All work was performed in an active outdoor switchyard environment, requiring strict adherence to OSHA and TMLP lockout/tagout procedures and coordination around energized circuits.
Special Challanges
Work was performed around energized 115kV circuits, requiring strict safety protocols and precise outage coordination. Supply chain delays and evolving COVID-19 conditions added complexity, but McDonald Electricals’ team maintained schedule and safety throughout the project.
