Project

McDonald Electrical Corporation served as the sole electrical contractor for the MBTA’s Natick Center Commuter Rail Station modernization—a transformative infrastructure upgrade aimed at improving accessibility, safety, and commuter experience.

This $40 million public transportation project included the construction of full-length high-level platforms, a new pedestrian bridge, elevators, ramps, and stairways to bring the station into full ADA compliance.

McDonald Electricals’ scope encompassed comprehensive electrical upgrades across the entire station, including:

  • Platform Lighting: Installation of high-efficiency lighting systems to enhance visibility and safety across both platforms.
  • Pedestrian Bridge & Emergency Lighting: Integrated lighting for the new bridge structure, including emergency egress systems.
  • Canopy & Wayfinding Lighting: Custom lighting solutions for platform canopies and ADA-compliant signage and wayfinding systems.
  • Bicycle Parking Area Lighting: Secure, well-lit infrastructure supporting multimodal transit access.
  • Systems Integration: Electrical coordination with drainage systems and the adjacent Cochituate Rail Trail improvements.

Special Challanges

Work was performed while maintaining active rail operations, requiring detailed phasing and coordination. Crews adapted to COVID-19 safety protocols, managed system tie-ins to existing infrastructure, and ensured compliance with environmental and accessibility standards.

Through detailed planning, BIM coordination, and field expertise, McDonald Electrical delivered a fully modernized, accessible station that enhances the daily experience for thousands of commuters.
