McDonald Electrical Corp. delivered a complete rooftop solar installation for IBEW Local 103 in Wilmington, MA. This commercial solar project, performed for general contractor H & H Builders with electrical engineering by IMEG, involved the turnkey installation of a 45-kW solar array designed to improve energy efficiency and support long‑term sustainability goals.

Our team of electricians installed 83 solar panels across the rooftop, using a combination of ballast blocks and screwed-down roof attachments to ensure optimal structural support and long-term system stability.

Project Scope

  • Solar Array Installation: Full installation of a 45-kW rooftop PV system consisting of 83 high‑efficiency solar panels.
  • Structural Mounting System: Deployment of ballast blocks and mechanical roof attachments for secure racking and alignment.
  • Electrical Integration: Wiring, system connections, and coordination with IMEG to ensure proper electrical performance and compliance with all solar installation standards.
  • Material & Equipment Handling: Safe delivery and staging of all materials onto the roof.

Special Challenges

A key challenge of the installation involved transporting solar panels, ballast blocks, protection rails, and related materials from the ground level to the rooftop. To accomplish this safely and efficiently, the team utilized the McDonald Electrical crane truck, enabling precise lifts in a constrained environment without disrupting surrounding operations.
