Project

Lyra is a 34-story luxury residential high-rise located on Huntington Avenue in Boston, MA. Developed by Toll Brothers and built by Suffolk Construction, the project features premium residences, three levels of parking, and amenity spaces on Levels 3 and 34 designed to enhance the resident experience. McDonald Electrical provided the complete electrical scope for this ground-up construction project, including power distribution, lighting, lighting controls, and fire alarm systems throughout the building.

Project Scope

  • Power & Distribution: Installation of the building’s complete electrical distribution infrastructure, including switchgear, feeders, panelboards, and power distribution systems serving residential, parking, amenity, and support spaces.
  • Lighting Systems: Furnishing and installation of interior and exterior lighting systems throughout all residential floors, parking areas, common spaces, and amenity areas.
  • Lighting Controls: Deployment of advanced lighting control systems designed to maximize energy efficiency and provide flexibility throughout residential and shared-use spaces.
  • Fire Alarm System: Complete installation and integration of a building-wide fire alarm system to support life-safety requirements across all residential, parking, and amenity spaces.
  • Residential Unit Electrical Fit-Out: Full electrical installation for all dwelling units, including branch circuitry, lighting, receptacles, and support for modern residential living requirements.
  • Amenity Space Infrastructure: Electrical systems supporting resident amenity areas located on Levels 3 and 34, including power, lighting, controls, and life-safety systems.
  • Prefabrication Strategy: Extensive use of prefabricated electrical assemblies and components for residential unit installations, enabling improved quality control, streamlined logistics, and accelerated installation schedules.

Special Challanges

Constructing a 34-story residential tower within a dense urban environment presented significant logistical challenges. The building’s site layout provided virtually no laydown area for material storage, equipment staging, or prefabrication activities on-site.

To overcome these constraints, the project team implemented a comprehensive prefabrication strategy for the residential units. Electrical components were assembled off-site and delivered on a just-in-time basis, minimizing material handling requirements while maintaining productivity. This approach allowed the team to efficiently coordinate deliveries, reduce congestion within the building, and keep pace with the aggressive construction schedule.

Through careful planning, strategic prefabrication, and close coordination with the project team, McDonald Electrical successfully delivered a high-quality electrical installation that met the demands of one of Boston’s prominent residential high-rise developments.
