Project

McDonald Electrical Corporation provided full electrical installation for the Parcel 12 Citizen M Hotel, a 14-story, 399-room hospitality development located at 408 Newbury Street in Boston’s Back Bay.

Led by Suffolk Construction and designed by Elkus Manfredi Architects, the project featured Citizen M’s proprietary smart hotel technology and a second-floor amenity space and bar. McDonald Electrical’s scope included:

  • Smart Hotel Room Wiring: Installation of advanced electrical systems across all guest rooms, integrating lighting, power, and controls tailored to Citizen M’s tech-forward brand.
  • Amenity & Bar Electrical Systems: Branch wiring for lighting and power in the second-floor amenity space and bar.
  • System Coordination: Integration with architectural and engineering designs provided by Elkus Manfredi and WSP.

Special Challenges

As Boston’s first air rights development in over four decades, Parcel 12 required construction directly above and alongside the Massachusetts Turnpike. This complex site demanded precise coordination, innovative logistics, and heightened safety measures to navigate the challenges of building over active infrastructure.
