Winsor School Electrical Campus Upgrades
Project
McDonald Electrical Corporation partnered with The Winsor School to execute a series of strategic campus upgrades in preparation for the 2025 academic year. The multi-phase initiative included:
Science Wing Renovation
- Full electrical demolition and rebuild across 12 classrooms and science labs.
- Rough-in and final wiring for lighting, outlets, and specialized lab equipment.
- Installation of a Lutron lighting control system and prefabricated fixture whips and rough-in kits to streamline installation.
- Temporary lighting deployed due to manufacturer delays, with final fixtures installed during off-hours to avoid class disruption.
Courtyard & Field Lighting Upgrades
- Removal of outdated lighting systems and installation of new energy-efficient LED fixtures.
- Enhanced safety and visibility through upgraded mounting brackets and custom field solutions for challenging placements.
Conference & Volunteer Room Modernization
- Electrical reconfiguration to support a new layout including recessed lighting, built-in bookshelves, TVs, and a modern conference table.
- Final wiring for all updated lighting and AV systems, creating a bright, functional meeting space.
Special Challenges
Working under a tight summer schedule, McDonald Electrical crews extended hours and shifted work to off-peak times to ensure all upgrades were completed before the start of the school year. When faced with manufacturer delays on lighting fixtures, the team installed temporary lighting to maintain progress and returned after-hours during the first week of classes to complete final installations without disrupting school operations. In the courtyard, mounting hardware issues were resolved on-site with custom field modifications, ensuring secure and lasting fixture placement. These challenges were met with flexibility, proactive planning, and a commitment to delivering high-quality results on time.
“McDonald Electricals’ Service Division approaches every project with professionalism and deep technical expertise. Their team is incredibly responsive, whether troubleshooting an urgent issue or planning a scheduled upgrade. Beyond the technical side, the team is collaborative and easy to work with.
– John Crompton, Director of Facilities & Construction, The Winsor School
They’ve become a trusted extension of our facilities team, flexible enough to work around our busy campus schedule without interruption. I would not hesitate to recommend them for any service, maintenance, or new construction work.”
