Mike Rowe Visits Landmark Project to Honor Skilled Trades

The MBTA Quincy Bus Terminal project represents a new era of sustainable public transportation. McDonald Electrical plays a critical role in this landmark project, delivering the complex electrical systems that will power the MBTA’s first-ever all-electric bus maintenance facility. Suffolk Construction, the General Contractor for this facility, hosted a very special guest at the MBTA Quincy Bus Terminal job site, Mike Rowe—Emmy award-winning TV host, producer, narrator, podcaster, bestselling author, and America’s leading advocate for the skilled trades.
Best known as the creator and host of Dirty Jobs and narrator of Deadliest Catch, Mike has traveled to every state, worked alongside hundreds of blue-collar Americans, and sparked a national conversation about the dignity of work.
Honoring the Skilled Trades
Speaking to our crews onsite, Mike Rowe emphasized the value of hard work, teamwork, and the challenges of the modern workforce. He encouraged a renewed appreciation for skilled labor and inspired the next generation to consider the rewarding career opportunities available in the trades.
For McDonald Electrical, this message resonates strongly. Our founders, Mike McDonald and Tom Cooney, both started their careers in vocational training and built this company on the principles of integrity, craftsmanship, and respect for the trades.
Meeting Mike Rowe alongside our partners at NECA Greater Boston and IBEW Local 103 was an inspiring milestone—one that affirmed our shared mission to advocate for the trades and the essential role they play in shaping our communities.
Building the Future Together
Once complete, this state-of-the-art maintenance facility will enable the MBTA’s transition to a fully electric bus fleet. As the first facility of its kind in the United States, it sets a national benchmark for sustainable infrastructure. As one of the largest electrical contractors in New England, our team is helping set a new national benchmark for sustainable transit infrastructure
Mike Rowe’s visit underscored a powerful message: while technology and infrastructure evolve, the heart of every project remains the same—skilled, hardworking people.
At McDonald Electrical, we are proud to be part of this landmark project, proud to stand alongside the men and women who make it possible, and proud to contribute to a future that is not only smarter and more sustainable but also built on the foundation of the trades.
