McDonald Electrical Corporation is proud to announce it has received the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) Project Excellence Award for its outstanding work on the Northeastern University EXP building, a 12-story, 357,000-square-foot research, engineering, and teaching facility in Boston, MA.

The EXP building stands as a beacon of innovation, designed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration among students, faculty, and industry partners. McDonald Electrical played a pivotal role in delivering the building’s complex electrical infrastructure, incorporating advanced technologies such as BIM, Trimble layout systems, prefabrication, and on-site digital access to real-time models- ensuring precision, efficiency, and safety throughout the project.

“This project is a perfect reflection of what our team does best: solve complex challenges with coordination, innovation, and craftsmanship,” said Mike McDonald, President of McDonald Electrical. “We’re honored to receive this recognition from NECA, and proud of our team’s work on a facility that’s advancing science and education in Boston.”

The National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) Project Excellence Award recognizes the best in the industry, delivering cutting-edge innovative solutions, exceptional craftsmanship, and high-performance outcomes across commercial, industrial, institutional, and infrastructure sectors.  Winners of this prestigious award will be formally recognized at next month’s Annual NECA Convention & Trade Show in Chicago. Now open, the EXP building is recognized as one of Northeastern University’s most forward-thinking spaces, providing dynamic environments for research in robotics, drug discovery, and engineering.

“This was more than an electrical job- it was about supporting the creation of a transformative building that brings innovation to life every day,” said Tom Cooney, Vice President of McDonald Electrical Corporation.
