Michael McDonald

President & Co-Founder

Michael McDonald co-founded McDonald Electrical Corporation in 1999 with Vice President Thomas Cooney, establishing the company as one of New England’s leading electrical contractors. With more than 40 years of experience in the electrical industry, Michael has worked on some of the most complex projects in the Greater Boston area. His career began before high school and by age 18, he had earned his Journeyman Electrician License, quickly advancing to Foreman and General Foreman, where he led major projects across the region.

Michael’s leadership extends well beyond the company. In 2025, he was sworn in as NECA District 1 Vice President, representing electrical contractors across New England, New York, and New Jersey. He was also inducted into the Academy of Electrical Contracting, one of the industry’s highest honors recognizing individuals who have made lasting contributions to the field. Michael chairs NECA’s Legislative Committee and serves on both the Joint Conference Committee and the Board of Trustees. He is a frequent speaker at industry events and educational programs, where he shares insights on leadership, innovation, and the evolving future of electrical construction.

A former certified trainer for the Greater Boston JATC, Michael has taught courses in Motor Theory, Motor Control, Medium Voltage Theory, Splicing, and Terminations for IBEW Local 103 journeymen and apprentices. He has served on the Advisory Board of Blue Hills Regional Technical School and is an active member of the Tri-State Peer Group, a national consortium of NECA-member companies focused on sharing best practices and addressing industry challenges.
